What is an autoresponder
An autoresponder is a service that lets you automatically send out emails to your subscriber list.
So, it’s really made up of two parts. Your subscriber list and sending emails
Your autoresponder service is a place that stores your list of subscribers.
It will even give you code, so you can set up a form on a webpage, so people can subscribe or opt-in to your list.
You can even have multiple lists of subscribers.
They could be different depending on where you found your subscribers or the different interests that they may have.
You don’t always want everyone to receive the same message.
This is called “segmenting” your list.
The most common ways to segment your list is between regular subscribers and paying customers.
The messages that you would send to these two groups are probably going to be very different.
The main purpose of an autoresponder is to get your message out to your list. You can do this in two different ways.
The first is a scheduled broadcast. This is an email blast that goes out to everyone on your list at the same time.
You can write your message ahead of time and schedule it to go out later.
This is a great way to announce an
- upcoming sale
- new product feature
- a live event
- holiday messages
- relate to current news stories
- release or launch dates
The second is an automated series.
So, when someone subscribes to your list, they automatically receive the email #1 in your series. Then they get emails 2, 3 and 4 in order.
So, if five people sign up on Wednesday, they get email #1. Then on Thursday, six more people sign up, those six get email #1 and the first five get email #2.
Can you imagine the frustration of having to try and manage that all by yourself?
And the best part about an automated series is that you only have to write the message once. EASY!

Aweber is great at this stage of your business growth.
It’s definitely the most popular service out there and has integrations set up with almost every webservice around.
But I recommend Sendlane.
Sendlane is an autoresponder service created and developed by internet marketers.
This platform is packed full of automation that not many other services can provide.
Sendlane allows you to create rules based on your customers actions.
Those rules can move a customer from one list to another, so you know exactly how to reach them.
And you can create tags for your subscribers to segment however you like.
One of the great things about Sendlane that is really important to me is their community.
